CAC stands for Customer Acquisition Cost and indicates the average cost of acquiring one new customer. The figure is calculated by dividing total sales and marketing spend by the number of new customers in the period. CAC is used to assess whether acquiring customers is profitable relative to the value those customers create.
If an online store spends $20,000 on ads and gains 200 new customers, its CAC is $100 per customer.
