Incrementality

Incrementality is the extra effect an ad actually creates, beyond what would have happened without it. The concept addresses the fact that some conversions would have occurred anyway, for example from loyal customers. Incrementality is typically measured through controlled experiments such as geo tests or holdout groups.

A holdout test, where one group of users doesn't receive retargeting, can reveal how much incrementality the channel actually delivers.
