E-commerce business consultant: profit over sales
An e-commerce business consultant helps webshops make money rather than just sell. Here is what the role covers, and when it is worth the money.
Most people who help webshops focus on one channel: ads, SEO or design. An e-commerce business consultant looks at the whole business, and at the one number that matters: profit. Here is what the role really covers.
What is an e-commerce business consultant?
It is an advisor who helps a webshop become a healthy business, rather than just a busy store. Where a marketing specialist optimizes a channel, the business consultant looks at the whole chain: purchasing, margins, marketing, conversion, repeat sales and the bottom line.
In other words: someone who thinks like an owner, because the goal is profit rather than activity.
Why it is a different role
A webshop can easily grow its revenue and still lose money. It happens when marketing is scaled without regard for margin, when the wrong products are pushed, or when heavy discounts buy growth that does not pay for itself. A business consultant catches that kind of thing, because he looks at the whole picture.
It is also why I work with concepts like POAS rather than ROAS alone, and why I see SEO, Google Ads and email as parts of the same math.
When is it worth the money?
An e-commerce business consultant makes the most sense when:
- You are growing in revenue but unsure where the money ends up.
- You have many channels that do not really play together.
- You want to make decisions on numbers rather than gut feeling.
