Distribution chain

A distribution chain is the series of links a product passes through from producer to end customer, for example producer, wholesaler, retailer, and consumer. In e-commerce, the distribution chain is often shorter, because the company sells directly to the consumer (D2C) without intermediaries.

A traditional clothing manufacturer selling through wholesalers and physical stores has a longer distribution chain than a D2C online store shipping straight from its own warehouse.
