Negative keywords

Negative keywords are words and phrases that an advertiser excludes so that ads are not shown for searches containing them. They are used to filter out irrelevant traffic and avoid wasting budget. A well built negative keyword list improves relevance and metrics over time.

A retailer of new items adds free and used as negative keywords to avoid clicks from users looking for something else entirely.
