A Record

An A record is the DNS record that links a domain name to a specific IPv4 address. It is one of the most fundamental records and determines which server a domain points to. A corresponding record called AAAA is used for IPv6 addresses.

To point a domain to a new server, the A record is updated to the new IP address, after which the change propagates through DNS.
