DNS

DNS (Domain Name System) is the system that translates a domain name into the IP address where the website is located. Without DNS, users would have to remember long strings of numbers instead of names like a domain. The system functions as a distributed lookup table spread across the entire internet.

When a domain is moved to a new host, the DNS records are updated, and the change can take up to 48 hours to propagate everywhere due to caching.
