Duplicate content

Duplicate content refers to text that appears identically or near-identically across multiple URLs, either on the same website or across domains. It can make it hard for search engines to decide which version should rank, and it spreads ranking signals thin. The problem is often handled with canonical tags, redirects, or rewriting.

Identical product descriptions supplied by a manufacturer and used by many webshops are a common source of duplicate content.
