A featured snippet is a highlighted answer that Google shows at the top of search results, above the regular organic links. It pulls an excerpt from a page that answers the query particularly precisely, often as a paragraph, list, or table. The placement gives high visibility and is often called position zero.
A clearly worded definition at the start of an article has a good chance of being shown as a featured snippet.
