Viewport

Viewport is the visible area of a web page on the user's screen, and a viewport tag tells the browser how the page should scale. Without the correct setting, a desktop page is often shown zoomed out and unreadable on mobile. The tag is the foundation for responsive design to work as intended.

A missing viewport tag causes a mobile user to encounter a tiny version of the desktop page that has to be zoomed in to be read.
