HTTP status code

An HTTP status code is a three digit number the server sends in response to a request, describing the outcome. Codes in the 200 series mean success, the 300 series redirection, the 400 series client errors, and the 500 series server errors. The codes are central to both troubleshooting and technical SEO.

A crawl tool goes through all URLs and flags any that return something other than 200, so broken links and incorrect redirects can be fixed.
