Sampling

Sampling is when an analytics tool calculates reports from a subset of data rather than the full dataset in order to save resources. The method makes large reports fast, but it can produce inaccurate figures for small segments.

With sampling, a report on a rare event can fluctuate because it is based on a sample rather than all sessions.
