Segmentation

Segmentation is the division of users or sessions into groups with shared characteristics in order to analyse them separately. The grouping can be based on behaviour, source, geography, or demographics, and it reveals patterns that aggregate figures hide.

By segmenting new versus returning visitors, it often becomes clear that the two groups convert very differently.
