The subject line is the short piece of text shown as the email's headline in the inbox, before the recipient opens it. It is often decisive for whether the email gets opened, and it therefore affects every metric that follows. Effective subject lines are relevant, honest, and just curiosity-inducing enough, without promising more than the content delivers.

A subject line that mentions a specific offer and the recipient's first name is opened more often than a generic headline.
